Organization Description:

The Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation (PHDC) was founded in November 2012. PHDC is a community development corporation (501 C 3) dedicated to providing economic 

growth for Hispanics in the Pittsburgh region and attracting Hispanic immigration and investments to the area.  

The Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation is hiring a Business Coordinator Consultant position to assist the PHDC Business Incubator Manager in our efforts of working with startups, business acceleration, economic development, community reinvestment, employment, and entrepreneurship education to fulfill the mission of the Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation. 

The Business Coordinator Consultant will work closely with the PHDC Business Incubator Manager to support entrepreneurs and startups in the Pittsburgh area, with a focus on the Latino community. This role is vital in navigating permits, inspections, and compliance processes to help businesses succeed.

 

Position Overview:

PHDC is seeking a Business Coordinator Consultant to support our Business Incubator Manager in various initiatives related to startup development, business acceleration, economic development, and entrepreneurship education. This role will involve close collaboration with entrepreneurs, particularly within the food and construction industries, helping them navigate permits, inspections, and compliance processes.

 

Job Description Responsibilities:

Permits and inspections for entrepreneurs in the food industry 

Food Safety Program of the Department of Health of Allegheny County/ Department of Agriculture 

  • Permit Assistance: Guide entrepreneurs through the application process for permits and inspections with the Allegheny County Health Department.
  • Documentation: Collect and organize the necessary documentation to initiate applications for food facility permits.
  • Site Visits: Visit food facilities to gather measurements and details needed for creating floor plans for the Department of Health.
  • Vendor Coordination: Arrange contracts with disposal oil companies for facility kitchens.
  • Inspection Coordination: Assist in coordinating fire inspections and facilitate communication between entrepreneurs and facility owners.

 

Construction Industry Support:

  • Permit Applications: Assist entrepreneurs in applying for occupancy or building permits with the City of Pittsburgh.
  • OneStopPGH Assistance: Help entrepreneurs create accounts and request permits through OneStopPGH.
  • Professional Connections: Connect entrepreneurs with architects to meet code requirements and develop necessary layouts.
  • Application Follow-Up: Monitor the application process and maintain open lines of communication between all involved parties.

 

General Administrative Support:

  • Workshop Assistance: Help organize and support entrepreneurship education workshops, especially those focused on Latino business startups.
  • Client Relations: Maintain relationships with past entrepreneurs, assisting them with ongoing documentation and permit needs.
  • Vendor Appointments: Set up appointments for entrepreneurs with PHDC vendors, including accountants, banks, lawyers, and other service providers.
  • Marketing Collaboration: Work with the marketing department to promote Business Incubator events through social media platforms like LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Executive Support: Assist the Business Incubator Manager in executive communications, including answering calls, responding to emails, and managing client interactions.
  • Documentation Management: Maintain an organized filing system for both paper and electronic documents.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with the PHDC loans business unit on loan and grant applications for entrepreneurs and existing small businesses.
  • Additional Duties: Complete tasks as assigned by the Executive Director and the Director of Operations and Programs.

 

Other Additional Activities

  • Assisting with the entrepreneurship education workshops, especially those related to Latino business start-ups, and day-to-day tasks, such as setting up meetings, recording information and meeting notes;
  • Assist in maintaining relationships with past entrepreneurs;
  • Assist the Business Incubator Manager in obtaining licenses, permits, and any other necessary documentation needed to participate in festivals and any other event.
  • Set up appointments for entrepreneurs with PHDC vendors: accountants, banks, lawyers, realtors, insurance companies, and any other business vendors;
  • Collaborate with the PHDC marketing department when needed concerning Business Incubator events.
  • Work with other team members to promote the incubator on social media, such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, etc.;
  • Assist the Business Incubator Manager in coordinating executive communications, including taking calls, responding to emails, and interfacing with clients;
  • Maintain an organized filing system of paper and electronic documents;
  • Collaborate with the PHDC loans business unit when needed about the entrepreneurs and existing small businesses loan and grant applications. 
  • Complete tasks as requested by the Executive Director and the Director of Operations and Programs.

 

Requirements:

  • Fluent in both Spanish and English (speaking and writing).
  • Proficiency in Portuguese is a plus.
  • College graduate preferred.
  • Must be able to work from the office.
  • Proficient with Google Workspace (Google Chrome, Docs, Sheets, etc.).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
  • Highly organized with excellent data and client management abilities.
  • Willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Cultural understanding of the Latino community is essential.
