The Pittsburgh Hispanic Development Corporation (PHDC) was founded in November 2012. PHDC is a community development corporation (501 C 3) dedicated to providing economic
growth for Hispanics in the Pittsburgh region and attracting Hispanic immigration and investments to the area.
We are a community development corporation with no geographic boundaries, focusing on racial equity in the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. We are dedicated to improving the lives of Hispanics in the region, increasing the Hispanic population, supporting existing and new Hispanic businesses, and increasing Hispanic investment in the region.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an Independent Consultant for the role of Portuguese/Spanish Outreach Navigator Consultant. This consultant will be instrumental in assisting our Housing, Community, Employment, and Business Incubator Programs in promoting, receiving, and managing inquiries and services from and to the Portuguese-speaking community & partners.
Responsibilities:
As a Portuguese/Spanish Outreach Navigator Consultant, you will:
∙ Provide services in Portuguese with a cultural understanding of the Brazilian community in the greater Pittsburgh region.
∙ Assist PHDC navigation and outreach efforts to connect and provide services to the Brazilian community in the greater Pittsburgh area region.
Employment
∙ Assist in posting new job listings on PHDC’s website in Portuguese.
∙ Assist the Employment Manager in conducting the appropriate follow-up with PHDC clients under the employment program.
∙ Promote PHDC employment services in community events.
Housing
∙ Assist the Housing Manager in completing the Housing rental process with Brazilian clients.
∙ Assist clients with interpretation of communications (translation to Portuguese).
∙ Translate leases provided by landlords in Portuguese for Latino Families.
∙ Promote PHDC housing services in community events.
Business Incubator
∙ Assisting with the entrepreneurship education workshops and Latino business start-ups, and day-to-day tasks, such as setting up meetings.
∙ Assist in maintaining relationships with past entrepreneurs.
∙ Hold Introduction, 1st, and 2nd Assessment meetings with Portuguese-speaking clients for the Business Incubator program.
∙ Promote PHDC business incubator services in community events.
Events Organization and Participation
∙ Coordinate with the PHDC Brazilian Team community events for the local Brazilian community.
∙ Promote PHDC services at the events.
Qualifications:
We are looking for a candidate who is/has:
∙ Is fluent in Portuguese (reading, writing, and speaking)
∙ Has strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
∙ Is highly organized with excellent data analysis and client management skills
∙ Has a cultural understanding of the Brazilian Community
∙ Is willing to provide services collaboratively as part of a team
∙ Proficient understanding of cultural sensitivity and ability to collaborate with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
∙ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software programs, Google Docs, Google Suite, and the use of social media.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
∙ Proficiency in Spanish is a plus
∙ Client Management experience
∙ Knowledge of business organization and development
∙ Bachelor’s Degree
Additional Information:
∙ Must be willing to commit 15 to 20 hours per week
∙ Position will start immediately
∙ As a Portuguese/Spanish Outreach Navigator Consultant, you can provide services for no more than 35 hours per week
∙ Contract renewal is available and will be considered based on availability and necessity
∙ Hours of services provided for PHDC events will be compensated, but are not included in the weekly hour total (which cannot exceed 35 hours)
