PHDC is searching for volunteers who want to aid people in the community file their taxes for free.
In order to help tax filers, a volunteer will go through the necessary training from the IRS website.
Volunteers will qualify for up to 18 CE credits, for those who may use them.
Volunteers will also be able to place this experience on their resume, and PHDC will back any confirmation calls. Aside from credits and experience, volunteers will be able to make a difference in the lives of the community by helping people file their taxes for free.
Volunteers who wish to sign up as will:
1: Fill out a preliminary application (HERE)
2: Receive a call and schedule a quick 10 minute phone interview.
3: Schedule an in-person orientation to be had at the 1555 Broadway Avenue, Second Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15216 PHDC Headquarters in Beechview.
4: Determine availability based on each volunteer’s schedule.
4: Certification.
During the orientation, volunteers will be instructed to complete the Volunteer Standards of Conduct Training on the IRS Website. Once the Standards of Conduct Training is done, Volunteers will be able to complete certifications in tax law necessary to help a variety of taxpayers based on their unique situation.

Certifications of every kind relevant to the VITA program open in November of 2024.
Speaking Spanish or Portuguese iis not required, as the IRS provides access to free translator services. However, bilingual volunteers are always welcome.
During the orientation, students will be introduced to the VITA site coordinator and the facilities in which taxpayers will see the volunteers for tax assistance.
This is a great opportunity for volunteers to help the community do their taxes for free and get volunteer and tax experience under their resume.
