Volunteer Associates
Job Summary:
Global Links’ volunteer program is the core of our organization and is often lauded for the service-learning experience we provide to volunteers from diverse backgrounds – students, faith-based groups, corporate groups, civic associations, students/adults with physical or developmental disabilities, families, and more. This position is often the first and main point of contact that volunteers have with the organization.
Volunteer Program Associates are responsible for supervising volunteer activities in accordance with Global Links health & safety protocols and inventory handling standards while pro-actively engaging them with relevant information about Global Links and our programs. Primary duties include: orientation and education of new volunteers and groups, instructing and guiding volunteers on processing medical materials to benefit our medical aid programs based on established procedures and quality guidelines, general maintenance of the volunteer area, and other tasks as needed. This position is a member of our volunteer engagement team.
Job type:
Part-time, 12-24 hours per week, including evenings and Saturdays.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare processing center for volunteers, including but not limited to setting up projects before volunteer arrival.
- Lead volunteer activity sessions, as designated by a weekly project plan, by guiding volunteers according to organizational protocols for processing medical surplus.
- Ensure accuracy in volunteers’ work for assigned projects.
- Actively engage and inform volunteers about relevant Global Links news and information
- Maintain a safe, clean and orderly space in the volunteer center.
- Suggest ideas for improvement of volunteer experience to Program Manager, Volunteer Engagement.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Effective oral communication skills. English fluency required.
- Ability to communicate, lead, and motivate volunteers with diverse backgrounds, abilities and skill sets.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Volunteer experience.
- Self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to switch tasks as needed and manage multiple projects.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work on your feet for extended hours.
- Ability to frequently lift and place products weighing up to 45 pounds on pallets and at various heights.
- Ability to frequently lift, sit, stand, bend, reach, grip, push, pull, lift and carry items throughout the warehouse and volunteer center.
- Ability to learn and properly operate a hand push pallet jack.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- Experience working with diverse populations, including people with disabilities.
- Experience with Salesforce or other customer relationship management.
- Willingness and ability to learn medical terminology as related to position.
- Experience in a health setting or overseas experience is a plus.
Compensation: $15/hour plus accrued PTO.
Truck Driver & Warehouse Technician (Non-CDL)
Job Summary:
This position reports to the Warehouse & Logistics Manager. Responsibilities include: truck driving our 26’ box trucks, loading & unloading trucks; inventory preparation/packaging for deliveries. Requires an energetic candidate who excels in a fast-paced environment.
Job type:
Full-time, non exempt.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive 26-foot box trucks to pick up goods from local and regional locations in accordance with applicable state, local and DOT regulations. Update mileage form per route.
- Provide excellent customer service: Perform pickups working with shipping/receiving departments and product donors. Share Global Links news and needs with clients and donors and maintain a professional manner and appearance.
- Work with other members of the warehouse team to provide feedback on pick-ups and work collaboratively to improve our customers’ experience.
- Check-in newly received inventory according to procedure and assist with inventory storage.
- Load and unload trucks using forklift, pallet jacks, hand trucks and dollies as needed.
- Maintain a neat and orderly workplace including keeping tools and supplies organized, sweeping, keeping work aisles clear and safe.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Strong understanding of Global Links mission and programs.
- Valid driver’s license & truck driving experience for 26′ box trucks. No CDL required.
- Must meet insurance underwriting requirements & pass background checks.
- Attention to detail.
- Self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to switch tasks in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to lift & move up to 50 lbs repeatedly.
- Ability to lift up to 100 pounds assisted.
- Able to read, write and speak English.
Preferred Skills and Abilities:
- Inventory management or stocking experience.
- Computer literate, familiarity with Google apps and/or Salesforce.
